SANDS Who We Are: SANDS, the stillbirth and neonatal charity, is a well-established and widely respected UK charity that: Supports anyone affected by the death of a baby Works in partnership with health professionals to ensure that bereaved parents and families receive the best possible care Promotes and funds research and changes in care that could help to reduce the loss of babies’ lives. SANDS has a network of over 100 Groups around the UK, and 12 in Scotland. Groups offer support to anyone affected by the death of a baby and they work closely with their local hospitals to ensure the best possible care is provided and promote awareness and the work of Sands nationally. What We Offer: Support is available in a variety of ways such as: Local Group Support Meetings; Telephone Befriending; UK Sands Helpline; UK Sands. Bereaved parents/families can be referred in a number of ways: Self-refer; Referred by GP; Other Health Professional; Family member. Befrienders are bereaved parents themselves, or have been closely affected by baby loss. The role is challenging and not for everyone. It requires the Befriender to be comfortable enough with their own grief that they can provide support to others.
