Giving support to bereaved children and young people in care

This course will explore the experience of bereavement for children and young people in care and what is needed to support them in their grief.

Who should attend?

All those whose work brings them into contact with grieving children and young people in care, in whatever capacity.

Learning outcomes

You will:

To gain insight and awareness into the needs of bereaved children and young people and consider theories of attachment /grief in relation to this.
To consider how the experience of children in care may be affected by bereavement.
To identify and understand possible responses/behaviours.
To gain knowledge of helpful strategies to support.
To acknowledge impact of helping work upon the self.
To gain information about Child Bereavement UK, other similar support organisations and resources available.

Cost: £45

We encourage prospective participants to consider their own experience of loss and how it might affect them during training. Generally speaking, our training is not usually suited to anyone who has suffered a recent, significant personal loss or bereavement.

When your baby dies

When a baby lives only a short time or dies before birth due to miscarriage, stillbirth or a painful decision to end the pregnancy, people may assume that the loss is not important. This is simply not the case.
UK death & bereavement statistics

A parent of children under 18 dies every 22 minutes in the UK; around 23,600 a year. This equates to around 111 children being bereaved of a parent every day.
