Support Sessions

At our centre in Buckinghamshire, Child Bereavement UK offers face-to-face support for families where a baby or child has died or where children and young people, up to the age of 25, are bereaved.

We are also able to support families who are facing bereavement, where a child of any age is not expected to live, or where children and young people are facing the bereavement of anyone significant in their lives.

Our services are provided free of charge and are offered by trained bereavement support practitioners. Please get in touch to find out more about what we offer and to discuss your needs.

Telephone Support Sessions

If accessing face to face support is difficult for you, our National Telephone Support Team can provide booked telephone support sessions.  For more information see Booked Telephone Support or call our freephone Helpline 0800 02 888 40 (Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm)

Groups for Parents

These groups give bereaved adults, as individuals or couples, an opportunity to meet, share experiences and explore their feelings in a safe and supportive environment, facilitated by a bereavement support practitioner.

Groups for Families

These groups allow bereaved families to get together. Children aged 4 to 12 can meet other bereaved children with their adult carers and express their feelings through play and creative activities in facilitated groups. These peer support groups are held over 4 Saturday mornings, and include structured creative activities such as:

  • felt making
  • drawing
  • collage
  • storytelling

The sessions cover themes such as:

  • Memories
  • Who is there for you
  • Coping with different feelings
  • Going forward

The groups are run by Child Bereavement UK support practitioners, who all have professional experience in working with children and families. They are supported by a team of trained volunteers. Families tell us that attending these groups has helped them to feel less isolated in their bereavement.

Groups for Young People

These groups encourage bereaved young people aged 11-25 to meet in a supportive environment, and, based on their own experiences, they work together on a variety of projects, focusing on what they think helps young people who are grieving.

Drop-in Service

We are working with a number of Children’s Centres in Aylesbury to provide regular support and information sessions for parents, carers or anyone who is supporting a bereaved child, or for parents who are bereaved of a child. You can drop in without an appointment, or book a time to see us. Please contact us for further information about this service and to find out when we will be at a centre near you.

Support for Professionals

We can support the work that teachers and other professionals are undertaking with bereaved children or young people, through advice, resources or bereavement awareness sessions.

Supporting Schools

Professionals in schools have a unique role in helping grieving children and young people, as children spend a significant amount of time in school. We can offer support and training to school staff supporting bereaved students. We also run an awareness programme for primary schools called the Elephant's Tea Party.

Contact Us

Enquiries are welcome directly from families. We also welcome referrals from other agencies if a family has agreed to have their contact details passed on to us. Please do get in touch to find out more about what we can offer.
