Who we are:

‘Choose Life’ is a National Strategy and Action Plan introduced in 2002 to address the rising rate of suicide in Scotland.

What we offer:

The strategy to reduce suicide focuses on five key themes of work in communities and services to continue a downward trend in suicides and contribute to the delivery of the National Outcome to enable people to live longer healthier lives.

The key themes are :

  • Responding to people in distress
  • Talking about suicide
  • Improving the NHS response to suicide
  • Developing the evidence base
  • Supporting change and improvement

Making improvements in how people think and behave about suicide is a priority and alertness training is delivered at a local and national level.  The training heightens alertness to identify someone with thoughts of suicide and promotes the importance of talking openly.  Training can be arranged through your local Area Coordinator.
