This 3-hour interactive online workshop from Child Bereavement UK will explore the impact of grief and bereavement in schools, recognising the important role of a school in providing a supportive environment.

Learning Outcomes

You will:

  • develop an understanding of the impact of loss and grief on children and young people's physical and emotional health, including their learning

  • gain insight into children and young people's reactions to loss and grief, and how a school might respond to meet the needs of grieving pupils

  • consider strategies for pastoral support appropriate to the age and developmental stage of the pupils

  • recognise the importance of creating a bereavement aware culture within school and the implementation of a robust bereavement policy or charter

  • explore a range of resources and support information to establish a ‘bereavement tool kit’ for your school/setting.

We encourage prospective participants to consider their own experience of loss and how it might affect them during training. Generally speaking, our training is not usually suited to anyone who has suffered a recent, significant personal loss or bereavement.
