Due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, many challenge events in 2020 have either been postponed or cancelled. However, the organisers of the Great North Run, have announced a virtual challenge this December, that is sure to have you running on Christmas cheer and keep you from going crackers!

The challenge is to complete 12 runs of Christmas (or more runs if you wish) of any distance between the 1st & 25th December. Your reward is a tree-mendous medal that will light up any Christmas tree.

Everyone who enters will be sent a unique medal that can be worn with pride or hung on your Christmas tree, but which will you get? Great Run have created 3 different festive medals and inspired by Secret Santa tradition, you won't know which medal is yours until it lands on your doormat!

But wait, there’s more! The challenge includes an optional distance challenge. Depending how far you run over your 13 (or more) runs, you will be awarded with a bespoke digital finishers certificate to download and share:

  • A round of santa-plause – 30 Miles
  • Run Run Rudolph – 60 miles
  • There's snow stopping you – 100 miles

The weather outside is frightful, but this delightful challenge will fire you up to keep on running through December! Whether you run in elf-isolation, or sign up with your tinsel troupe, may all your miles be merry!

Like the idea of taking part in this Christmas themed virtual event? Why not raise vital funds for Child Bereavement UK at the same time?  With no fundraising target to reach, all we ask is you represent Child Bereavement UK in one of our bright yellow t-shirts and raise as much as you can.

Why Child Bereavement UK?

We aim to ensure the accessibility of high quality child bereavement support and information to all families and professionals by increasing our reach; plugging the gaps that exist in bereavement support and training across the country; and embedding standards in the sector.

When you fundraise for us, you’ll receive:

  • a welcome email & fundraising pack from our events team
  • a Child Bereavement UK t-shurt
